'Tis the Clitmas Season in July

New York, NY - July 2017

“Let me guess. Two eggplants or a uterus?” A man spoke as he peered over the edge of the fountain.

“Actually neither, but close. It’s the clitoris.”

“Cool! I was just watching Orange is the New Black the other day, and one of the women didn’t know that there are multiple holes. You know… vagina and urethra. So Laverne Cox’s character sat everyone down for an anatomy lesson. It was amazing! You figure some stuff out from touching and feeling - but they have actual names!” He looks back at the drawing to ask, “So tell me - how do each of those parts fit in with that?”

I pointed with my foot to where the urethra and vaginal opening would be on the image. Then I continued to move around the drawing to explain that the Santa hat is the clitoral hood, and the bulbs hug the vaginal canal. Of course we couldn’t end the conversation without speaking about how the clitoris is mostly internal, the sensitivity of the glans, and how the clitoris becomes engorged with blood when aroused.

Before moving on with the rest of his day, he said, “I really learned something today. Thank you. I’m a big fan of the clitoris.”
